A plea to the SDMB's expert fliers

Well, maybe I could get a shengen visa but the embassies are in washington (and the consulates in NY I guess) while I live in Florida. And the time that would elapse from the moment I request one until the day I actually receive it is most probably around 2 weeks up to a month (plus mailing delays if I don’t stay in Washington/New York the whole time). There is also a fee involved but that’s not an issue. The fee is pretty cheap. I would also have to depart from my passport the whole time. Had I done all this three months ago, it would have helped me quite a bit. But planning ahead is not my Forte and I had not foreseen so many difficulties. Live and learn I guess.

I also forgot to mention that I’d need quite a few documents to submit along with my passport, most of which I don’t have with me so I’d need to have my parents mail them to me (they must be originals or certified copies, no faxes accepted) so that would add to the delay as well.

Have you looked for lights out of NYC? I know you are in Florida but you can get a flight to NYC cheap

Yeah, I looked at that. Anyways, I contacted the guys from www.airhitch.org and they found me something for $910. A little bit beyond my initial budget but still not as outrageous as the previous prices I found. I’m awaiting confirmation before I go pick up the ticket. Let’s hope there are no more nasty surprises…
