So, I want to go back home this summer and I have to book a roundrip ticket Miami-Casablanca-Miami. Unfortunately, It’s kinda late to make reservations and I haven’t been able to find a price within my means ($860). So I was wondering if you could try and help me find a flight within my financial range. Hey it could be kind of fun! Nah, who am I kidding? It’s a chore but maybe you’re bored and have nothing better to do or gasp really want to help. In any case, here is the data I imagine you need in order to start probing:
Date of departure: May 30
Date of my return: July 15
(both dates are just “ideals” and are extremely flexible so knock yourself out changing them).
Age: 23
Occupation: Student
Nationality: Moroccan (duh!). That means that I can’t just take a flight to france, hang out there a couple days then hop on another flight to Casablanca. I’d need a french visa for that. I’m mentionning it because I’ve heard of something called air hitchiking which is very cheap but requires you to do just that.
And that’s about it, I don’t really care about comfort, service or security so If Air Crappistan’s planes crash half the time but are the cheapest, I’ll still take them
That’s about it. Happy hunting to all participants.
Ah, you know what? The winner gets a pwetty souvenir from Morocco when I come back. No, no rugs! Something small enough that I can carry it with me. No! No diamonds either. Goddamn you vultures! shoo! shoo!
Leaving it this late makers things a bit difficult.
If you can wait till the second week of June to depart you can probably do the RT for 1100-1300USD through Cheaptickets.com.
You might try Bucketshop.com; lowest shown was 704 GBP, leaving early June.
If you can get to London on a cheap ticket, Lastminute.com showed 175GBP London-Casablanca. Doesn’t look as though they’ll book originating flights from outside the UK, however.
So the lowest you found was $1100 and that’s if I leave in the middle of june…Not really an improvement over the $1200 i’d have to pay with you other option (704GBP = roughly $1170).
Both of witch are out of my reach. damn. Well, let’s wait and see if someone else can find something better.
I’m going to be bumping this for a little while. I apologize in advance for the inconvenience but this is pretty important to me. (I actually need to exit and re-enter the country to remain in status. Something to do with the fact that I took a summer semester instead of a fall semester last year.) So I really need this. plus, I want to go visit my family. Haven’t seen them for a year and a half now.
I don’t see how that could help me. I specified in my first post that I’m going to Morocco and that I do not carry a shengen visa. I used Paris as an example, but it applies to pretty much every european country except turkey. So that deal is no good to me.
Can you get a job aboard a freighter headed to Africa, then fly back? You might have to fight off the Dread Pirate Roberts and various other bunkmates, but it could be a way to make some money and get home. Of course I have no idea of whether this is realistic these days. But at least you’re starting from a port city.
Ok, here’s another idea that’s crazy enough that it might just work: enter Mexico or Canada illegally, then turn yourself in and get deported back to Morocco. Think of all the money you’ll save. Of course this could have some unexpected nasty side effects, but your still in college. This is the time for adventure.
Well, first of all, entering a country illegally isn’t easy at all. In fact, It’s quite hard and risky. Of course I have the possibility to be deported to Morocco, I could just take a flight to any country of my choosing without a proper visa, shred my return airplane ticket and say hi to the border police. I’d be deported to Morocco shortly. On the downside, I would probably be detained or jailed first for several days/weeks and I would be blacklisted as an illegal immigrant with all the nasty side effects you mentionned. I can’t let that happen.
**Gozu, ** can’t you just get a Schengen visa? How much of a pain is it? Sounds like it would potentially save you some serious cash.
Also, I have most of my usefull visa-type stuff bookmarked at work, but is the U.K. a Schengen country? British Airways shoudl have some decent fares to teh Middle East, or at least routes if you’re not going to book directly with them.
I’ve gotten my best international deals by just calling a few of the bucket shops listed in the Sunday travel section, but admittedly it’s been a while. (The last cheapo trip I did was Chicago/London for $350 RT, but that wasn’t peak season.)
Good luck, and let us know what you find! It may be time for a real adventure in a few months…
