Evidently this is going viral – I saw it when my sister texted the article and obit to me. It is an interesting obituary, for sure, written by her son and he certainly put a lot into it.

The obituary:
Awww. That’s lovely.
Wow, quite the character! I feel so colorless now. Great obit.
A friend of mine shared it on Facebook over the weekend. I thought it was brilliantly done, and a sign that her son really did understand his mom. (Plus, I’m irreverent enough that I would want such an obituary for myself. )
Holy crap.
I got some livin’ to do if I ever become that nuts. And I really want to.
Great obit!!
I believe it was Paul Chadwick who wrote “Go through life like a comet- undeterred, unafraid and unashamed.” That’s been one of my goals since I first read it. So I say, well done Renay!
I just spoke to my mother, who informed me that her older brother’s wife of 68 years died earlier this evening. While she had quite an interesting life, it was nowhere near THIS colorful!
RIP, Renay! Wish I’d known you!
This stuff sounds good in lively obituaries, but it’s frequently very hard to the ones who had to deal with these people in real live.
If you strip away the colorful writing, this sounds like - even assuming some amount of exageration in that obit - the type of person who posters start threads to complain about on this MB, and other people advise them to just stay away and don’t get sucked in to their drama, don’t make their troubles your troubles etc. etc.
My mother is not remotely as colorful as this woman was, but I’m very glad that she’s what she is and that I’ve never had to deal with multiple bankruptcies, or living under my “care, compassion, checking accounts and, evidently, unlimited patience”.
The writer was interviewed by Larry King Michael Smerconish. (<-- CNN video link)
This, absolutely, in my case.
That was wonderful. Both the obit and the interview; just wonderful.
wow sounds like a helluva’ woman… she and my mom could have been sisters’ friends or something deeper cause that’s pretty much how mom lived only thing that kept mom somewhat on the ground was us, kids …
