A poll about the Duke Rape Scandal

I believe the players are probably guilty of a lesser charge.

Male.

In situations like this, I think the truth lies closer to the alleged victim’s account than the alleged perpetrator.

Assuming she is a reasonable person, she has little reason to invent a story like this. Win or lose the case, her life gets turned upside down.

The lacrosse players have a great deal of reason to lie about it if it happened.

Further evidence may change my mind.

Polls like this always need a No Opinion option. That’s mine, don’t know and don’t care. - Male

Don’t trust either side.

From the information I know up till this point:

The Players

Female

Go ahead and comment on the case, but what’s the purpose of the poll?

Poll’s are fine when you’re asking someone who’d they’d vote for or if they prefer stuffing or potatoes, but why the hell poll people, other than a jury, if someone is guilty or innocent?

That’s useless.

Frank, sorry, I didn’t see your post until I had responded. Forget I said anything.

I’m male, and I’ll side with the jury. No DNA merely means condoms, so it comes down to who the jury believes. None of us will be in the courtroom, so we’ll never know.

More inclined to believe the woman.

Female

They’re guilty.

I have a penis.

I believe the players.

Male

From what I’ve heard so far, the players. I’m male.

I dunno.

The truth is likely somewhere in between their version of being completely innocent, and her version of being viciously gang raped. But, as of right now, I think it’s closer to the players version. Though I won’t be shocked to be wrong.

Male: 98-Don’t know. Honestly don’t know.

I believe the lacrosse players.

I am female.

I believe everyone is guilty of bad jusdgement, but not so sure if a crime has been committed.

Male.

I am swayed towards believing that she was raped, but I admit a strong bias against rich college boy jocks. I certainly believe, based on past cases of group sexual assault during drunken parties, that it easily could happen. One of the news stories I’ve seen said that the woman was examined at a hospital, where she had ‘injuries consistent with a sexual assault’. Another story says the players are certain that DNA evidence will exonerate them. Frankly there isn’t enough information to judge this. She claims she was beaten, choked and sodomized, as well as raped. If so there should be physical evidence, bruising, etc. And there is no reason rapists can’t use condoms, so a lack of DNA is hardly a convincing argument.

But if there were condom use, what would the DNA samples even be being matched to? Why would they even collect DNA samples if there were nothing collected from the woman? Don’t get it.

I should point out that there’s a thread in the pit for more general discussion.

I’m a female geek, but I believe the lacrosse players for now, based on what I’ve heard about the case. Last week on Good Morning America, they said the DA wouldn’t be pursuing the case if he didn’t believe he had something, but I have to wonder how many innocent men are in jail because a DA was certain he had the right man, despite evidence to the contrary.

Lord Ashtar, at some point, would you be willing to tell us who Jay Severn predicted women would believe and who he predicted men would believe?
