A Poll: Favorite Wizard of Oz Character?

It turns out, my husband and I have the same favorite character from the Wizard of Oz. Considering our tastes are polar opposites on virtually everything else, I’m rather surprised by this because I don’t think our choice would be the most common. Our choice? The Tin Man.

Dopers, among the major characters, who is your favorite?

Wizard of Oz, only, eh? None of the other books then. Then I have to say the Tin Man, too.

My favorite is the Wizard himself (after Toto pulls back the curtain) and his pre-twister incarnation as the fortune teller.

Glinda, I guess. None of the characters were really likeable. I can’t believe that Dorothy wanted to go back and live in poverty on her family’s pig farm instead of staying in the fantastical world of Oz, either. WTF?

You mean the movie? I’d give the edge to the Cowardly Lion, primarily for “If I Were King of the Forest,” with second place to the Scarecrow, who was always the smartest one in any situation.

I’m shocked that this poll wasn’t a runaway for the Scarecrow.

“I think I’ll miss you most of all.”

Miss One.

I like that big bird that keeps screwing with the scenes making people think they see a Munchkin committing suicide or something.

I choose the entire Lollypop Guild.

I also like that guard dude with the hat that first admonishes Dorothy for killing the Wicked Witch and then realizes what it means.

Glinda, because she’s the Wizard of Oz character who’d be most at home in the original source, Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass.

Dorothy!

The movie never would have scared the shit out of me as a kid if it weren’t for Margaret Hamilton; therefore the Wicked Witch of the West gets my vote.

Scarecrow.

I, too, am surprised by the results so far.

I’ve always been a friend of Dorothy.

Flying monkeys, of course!

“Official” Oz has kind of been skewed in my mind by Wicked (the book more than the musical), so my sympathies tend to veer in the Witch’s direction…

I was going to say almost the very same thing, but I decided to go for the friend of Dorothy joke instead. i’ve been obsessed with the Wicked OCR since my friend gave it to me for Christmas last year.

The Scarecrow, definitely.

Toto!
