A Poll for Dopers in their 20s and younger (nostalgia for those older)

I know F1 and F2.

  1. [Old man in a thick southern accent]Oh Belvedere! Come heah boy!
    Sounds really familiar but no.

  2. [Very gay male accent]Excuse me while I slip into something a little more spectacular!
    Nope. (unless it’s Buddy Cole?)

  3. [Old woman]Where’s the beef?!
    Wendy’s commercial.

  4. Just a swangin’…
    Nope

  5. Don’t worry, be happy…
    Bobby McFerrin song

  6. [Drunk suave accent]How’d all these people get in my room? (This one a lot of people over 30 probably won’t get.)
    Nope

  7. And that’s the way it was… two hundred years ago today
    Nope

  8. Gag me with a spoon!
I’ve heard and used this but no idea where it’s from. SNL?

  9. It’s time to put on make-up/It’s time to light the lights…
    Muppet Show theme song, duh!

  10. [Southern female- really drawled]Mel, kiss my grits!
    Nope.

  11. Bueller… Bueller…
Ben Stein as Feris Bueller’s teacher in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”

  12. PING PONG BALLS!
    Captain Kangaroo

I’ll be 28 in a month.

I’m 26. I don’t think we had cable until 1989. I realise many of these are older than I am, but my sister and I weren’t really allowed to watch anything but what my parents liked.

  1. [Old man in a thick southern accent]Oh Belvedere! Come heah boy!
-sounds like Looney Tunes. Was Belvedere a dog?

  2. [Very gay male accent]Excuse me while I slip into something a little more spectacular!
    -not sure, maybe Liberace.

  3. [Old woman]Where’s the beef?!
-Wendy’s commercial, there was a little burger on a big bun

  4. Just a swangin’…
    -no clue

  5. Don’t worry, be happy…
    -Here’s a little song I wrote… Bobby McFerrin

  6. [Drunk suave accent]How’d all these people get in my room? (This one a lot of people over 30 probably won’t get.)
    -Dean Martin, I think.

  7. And that’s the way it was… two hundred years ago today
    -dunno

  8. Gag me with a spoon!
-Square Pegs. Horribly sticking phrases abounded.

  9. It’s time to put on make-up/It’s time to light the lights…
    -Muppets!

  10. [Southern female- really drawled]Mel, kiss my grits!
    -Flo

  11. Bueller… Bueller…
-Ben Stein, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

  12. PING PONG BALLS!
    -dunno

I’m 23 and I recognize 1, 3, 5, 9 and 11.

I’ve heard of 3 (“Where’s the beef?!”) but only because I looked it up on YouTube the first time I heard it mentioned a couple of years ago, I know 5 (“Don’t worry, be happy…”) is a song I’ve heard a couple of times but know nothing more about it, and I know 11 is from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off but I have never seen the whole movie. The rest are completely alien to me.
I’m 19.

I’m 30 and the only one I’m really sure of is the Farris Bueller one. I think the kiss my grits is from a TV show waitress can’t remember particulars about show…

28 years old, here. I got:

3, 4, 5, 8, and 11.

4 only because my parents were really into him when I was a kid. I try to block it from my memory…

I know the “shoephone” reference. F2 sounded vaguely familiar but F3 I don’t know.

I’m 40 and I recognized 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 without cheating.

F1 - Get Smart
F2 - No clue
F3 - …the Junction. Petticoat Junction!

S1 - “I’m just a bill, yes I’m only a bill…”
S2 - You’re soaking in it
S3 - Plop, plop, fizz, fizz

I’m 20 years old, and the only ones I recognize are 3, 5, and 11. I’ve heard 8, but I can’t attribute it to anything.

I’m 29 on Monday. A bit obtuse as far as this stuff is usually concerned. Curiously enough, I didn’t get most of them until I read them aloud to myself. When the accent took over, it clicked.

  1. Yeah, that’s Looney Tunes.
  2. Liberace.
  3. Wendy’s. Isn’t Dave Thomas dead or something?
  4. NFC
  5. Bobby Whatshisname. Mc something or other.
  6. NFC
  7. NFC
  8. Some valley girl thing, but I cannot remember where it came from.
  9. NFC
    10)NFC
11)This one is still used all the time. Anyone here?
    12)Alas, NFC.

NOW you’re speaking my language. These I got instantly.

S1 and S3 are really easy. I know that I am familiar with S2, but I can’t think of what it is for the life of me. A commercial slogan, I think.

I’m 34, and all but 6 were familiar, but I couldn’t place 1, 2 and 12, probably because I was only 3 or 4 at the time when they were popular.

yep, S1, 2 and 3 were easy! Thanks, Southpaw!

And it isn’t a matter of reruns - I haven’t watched much TV since those things first came out. I’m getting c-r-e-a-k-y…

Only 5 and 11.

I never watched much TV as a kid besides Nickelodeon. I thought everything else was bullshit.

I recognize numbers 3, 5, 8, and 11. Going from your answer sheet, I’ve also definitely seen numbers 9 and 12, but all that says is that I don’t remember the running gags from when I was a young kid, more than that I wouldn’t be part of the generation to have seen it.

I’m 27.9.

  1. Knew all but 6 and 7, and 6 probably would have come to me eventually.
