  1. It’s was a Mutual Gift between my little sister (age 16) and myself. We got it Christmas 2007

  5. My sister is not. I consider myself to be a Gamer. I was a huge fan of the PS1 & 2, and I loved my sega from when I was kid. I also regular play computer games, and in college, I loved to play SSB: Melee for the Gamecube. My sister only has really played Pokemon on her Gameboy, but now she likes that Unlimited Oceans, the Wii sports, and she’s slowly learning how to play Brawl.

In my whole life? Atari 2600, Action Max, NES, Super NES, Sega Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear, Sega CD (boy was that a joke), Playstation, PS2, and the Wii. The PS2 and Wii are all that I currently own.

5. Do you consider yourself to be a gamer?

Honestly, no, not really. When I was younger I definately did. Like most kids my age, I played lots of video games in the 80’s and 90’s, sometimes for hours at a time, every day. Now? Not so much. I used to feel like I was doing something good or useful when I spent all my time beating some RPG or taking the Phoenix Suns to 82 and 0, but now when I play a video game, I just feel like I am wasting my time. There is that nagging feeling that I could have done something better with my time. One of the biggest draws for me in getting a Wii was that my wife and I could play together. She wanted to get one as much as I did.

This thread has reminded me of that movie The Wizard. I would love to watch that again.

This has been my experience too. My girlfriend will play non-traditional games like Big Brain Academy or old virtual console games that she remembers but not any of the traditionally “gamer” games.

I wonder how polarized the Wii’s owners are in terms of what games appeal to them.

EJsGirl, I notice that you played the games that are not traditionally “gamer” games first. Is there a particular reason for that? What about those games appealed to you more than, say, Mario Galaxy?

I started out on the same ones we started my young sons on- they are 6 & 8. And I wasn’t intimidated by bowling! :wink: But seriously, the intimidation factor is a big part of it- I don’t want to feel like a dork because I can’t master a damned video game. And of course, the “big swingy” games aren’t the kind of thing I could have done on a standard platform, so there was the “neat-o” factor.

Mario Galaxy looks awesome, so I will try it.

About a month and a half now. I’ve wanted one for a while, but not badly enough to camp out for it; I had a Friday off a while back, and I knew my local Toys R Us gets their shipments on that day usually, so I called a couple times and picked one up when they got it in.

I don’t know. Probably. I play a lot of games, but they are generally not “gamer”-type games. I only bought the PS2 to play DDR, and never really got into any other games for it. I love the DS, though, and am very surprised by how much I am playing and enjoying the Wii.

As far as non-gamers enjoying the Wii–my parents, both in their 60’s, want one. They haven’t had any sort of console in their house since the NES, and they certainly never played with that after a few deaths on level 1-1 of Super Mario Bros.

I’ve never owned any gaming console, when I was a lad my gaming platform of choice was the C=64 and through the 90s, my PC (for Doom, Quake, Half-Life, etc. types of games – the last one I got into was Wolfenstein 3D).
