Also counting the PC, and the Handspring PDA that I played “Bejeweled” on so damned much that I wore a grid into the screen.
5. Do you consider yourself to be a gamer?
Probably more than your average 45-year-old, but on a scale of 1 to 10 I’d say maybe a 3 or 4.
Having said that, my wife is actually the one who insisted on getting a Wii. (I think her exact words were, “If we get a big screen TV, we can get a Wii!” We got the Wii but I’m still waiting on the big screen TV. :)) I was planning on upgrading my X-Box to a 360 sometime this year but I haven’t even thought about it since we got the Wii. In fact, I think I’ve only played the X-Box a handful of times since then.
We got Super Mario Galaxy and the Rayman game partly because we thought the grandkids (7, 8 and 9) would enjoy them, but all they ever want to play is Wii Sports. That will probably change now that we have Guitar Hero.

5. Do you consider yourself to be a gamer?
Yep. And now that I’ve listed them out, I realize I’m a compulsive gaming nerd who must own every system! Well, the NES to PS1 era I didn’t buy many systems. I got the N64 and Gamecube after the Wii launch…
Analysis:
I play Excitebike more than anything else on the Wii. And I ‘play’ Everyone Votes more than Excitebike. Given that I have so many other consoles, I look to the Wii for non-traditional gaming, but I’m not sure that it’s worth it to me, even though I do love it.
How long have you owned your Wii?
Just after last Christmas.
What games do you own?
Guitar Hero III, SSBros Brawl, Excite Truck, Sports, Rabbids 1, Pokemon Stadium, Transformers, Spider-Man (I was hoping for awesome. It’s still fun to swing around Manhattan, at least) Play, a golf game I forget the name of.
What games have you rented/borrowed?
I don’t rent games.
What consoles do you/have you owned (including hand held consoles)?
Pong. Atari 2600. NES. GBAC. PS2, GBASP. DS Lite.
Do you consider yourself to be a gamer?
You could say that… though I’m a PC gamer by preference. And if we included my game machines, you’d see the wreckage of (mumble) years of electronics in my closet…
Sports, Play, Zelda, Trauma Center, Marvel Super Heroes, Monkey Ball, RE4, Metroid, SMBG, Link’s Crossbow Training, SSBM, Harvey Birdman, and a few more that I can’t think of off the top of my head.
None.
Er… all of them. Well except XBox 360 and a PS3. Okay, there might be one or two other very low key ones that I don’t own but if a console has sold more than a million units I have one and I have quite a few that didn’t.
I’m not sure if this will help or not, I have a Wii in the house, but am not much of a console gamer. The kids play the Wii more than anyone else.
About a year
Sports, Play, Mario Galaxy.
I’m sure other stuff (Brainiac4 actually uses the console and rents games for the kids and himself, he may tell you).
In the house we have a Playstation 2, XBox360, 4 PCs. We’ve owned a Playstation 1.
Not really, I can get through songs on Medium on guitar hero. And I play a lot of City of Heroes. So more than your average 41 year old mother of two. But Brainiac4 will wax philosophically that we are all gamers - that I play minesweeper, solitaire and catch with my kids and that makes me a gamer - although my aversion to Halo3 may keep me from being a “Gamer.”
Oh, here is the thing about the Wii. Brainiac4’s 68 year old mother was over a weekend or so ago, and she was “bowling” with the kids. Not that she is going to go out and buy a Wii, but you won’t find her button smashing “War of the Monsters” with her grandson. On the other hand, she is a “gamer” - she plays computer games like Bejeweled, Myst and Solitaire.
What the Wii has done is its captured some of the “Bejeweled” market from the PC to consoles. Now, you can say that people who don’t play FPSs and have aren’t gamers - they themselves probably wouldn’t identify as such, but its sort of a snobbish elitism. Plus, its timing is great. Many moms aren’t thrilled with kids sitting on the couch smashing buttons. They are more interested in a dance pad, a guitar controller, or a Wii nunchuck - at least the kid is moving.
The rest of my family is currently playing RockBand on the 360 - the drums were bought last night and my eight year old daughter is the drummer. Our nine year old genetically preprogrammed boy is on guitar and Brainiac4 is being bored out of his skull by bass. I’m being recruited to try vocals.
