Will those who hate the Yankees please answer:
Which is the better scenario - the Yankees lose in the first round of the playoffs to the Twins, or the Yanks lose in the championship series to the Red Sox? Which would have a more heated reaction from Steinbrenner?
Yanks losing to Red Sox would be ideal of course. But I’d rather have them lose in the first round. The excitement of a Yanks/Red Sox series might be too much for me.
It’s a “if you have a rabid dog…better off killing him with the first shot” type of thing. Yankees=evil was always my thinking

Yankee-hater checking in. I have to say that losing to the Red Sox would be more humiliating, but I just don’t trust the Sox to be able to finish them off. I would have to be out of the country because it would be too nerve-wracking.
But maybe beating the Yankees would give the Sox the boost they need to actually win a championship. It’s got to happen sometime.

Yankees lose in first round. Better yet, they all catch some loathsome social disease, and have to be quarantined while New York is disinfected.

Yankees swept in the first round, but being swept by Boston would be nearly as good.
I’d rather get rid of the Yankees first, and have the Sox face a team they don’t have a mental block about. Also, the Twins’ pitching is softer.

The Yankees lose to the A’s in the ALCS.

I would love to see the BoSox take the Yankees in 7 (at Yankee Stadium no less) except for that fact that it would entail my beloved Athletics losing in the first round (again!).
Therefore, I have to agree with kevya, A’s over the Yankees to take the ALCS in four.
I would have to take a week off work as I wept with uncontrollable joy if the Sox swept the Yankees.
I can’t even imagine the perfect World Series of Cubs vs. Sox. Could there be anyone who wants to see Braves vs. Yankees in the Series. I understand being a fan as I have suffered with the Sox, but really what a crashing bore that would be.
I would love to hear from a demented Yankee fan as to which matchup they would rather see, although I suppose I can guess the answer.

Non-demented (I think) Yankees fan checking in, also a general fan of baseball in that I don’t really hate the Red Sox or any other team.
I can tell you, I’d hate to see the Yankees vs Atlanta again. That would not be a good thing for baseball. Yankees-Cubs, Yankees-Giants, even Yankees-Astros would be much more interesting storylines. But none of them would come anywhere close to Red Sox-Cubs. That would be something.
You know what else would be a great matchup? Red Sox-Giants. Pedro vs Barry in the World Series. Think Pedro would pitch around him?
I’m not really a Yankee hater, but…
It would be good to see the Twins, who along with the Expos were one of the teams MLB considered dismantling last year, beat the team with the highest payroll in baseball.
Then again, I’m a Mets fan, and I don’t particularly like seeing them get their high-paying asses handed to them by the Expos
