Are you on a phone or laptop/desktop? If you’re using a ‘regular’ computer, install FB Purity. It gets rid of all the ads PLUS lets you customize things. This way you can sort posts (newest first, for example), get rid of certain types of posts, remove the background everyone ads to their posts and all kinds of other things.
A pi-hole and uBlock Origin help as well. Once a month or so, FB changes something or another and FB Purity will let a lot of garbage slip through until he updates the software which usually just takes a day or two.
On a phone, however, that’s different. There it seems to come and go. I’ll go weeks without seeing a single ad, then a week or two where I have so many ads it’s not even worth looking at it. I honestly don’t know if FB is serving up more/less ads or if the pi-hole is blocking them* but then something changes and they get through again.
*I always forget how well the pi-hole works, even on my phone, until I’m using it while away from home/work and all the ads start popping up again.
