About 10 years ago there was a mercifully brief and limited vogue for knit caps that were like the “nightcaps” that a Dr. Seuss character would wear: : soft and round with a LONG tail ending in a ball of knitted wool. In fact, they were very much like the “elf” caps that people sometimes wear at Christmas parties, except of course they weren’t red and white. They seemed to be worn mostly by white rappers and their ilk, who, rather than let the tail hang free, would tuck it up into the top of the cap.
Does anyone know anything about this trend? And, BTW, about the same time I saw them referred to in a magazine as “Doofus” caps. Who or what was the original Doofus?
