A question about the movie Sphere *spoilers!*

In the book the computer culture was all totally late 80s, line command, very simple text menus, and such, no graphic interfaces, and all military anyway…

Warez did not even exist when the book was written.
So to me, yesterday, it read as historical fiction.

Of course, for the movie it should have been current to it’s time however.
RE the sphere was boring compared to the ship and the time loop:

It’s nice to read that the ship was visually more interesting than the sphere.
But in the book the sphere was very much more interesting than what otherwise would have been very VERY hum-drum as a written work of SciFi. And very out of date.

What version have you seen? The book I read never made any mention of the “team” being those who put the ship there. Are you sure you are talking about “Sphere”?

IIRC, in the book the message is translated with pencil and paper (lo-tech even for 1987). So it makes more sense.

(I could have sworn I posted that before the clods started to be shoveler onto this thread’s coffin. But it appears not…)
