A question about The Young Ones...

Only it’s not really.

Back in the day when that got popular on MTV, a friend of a friend got me a tape of the same group of guys as a band.

Things I remember: Horrible cover of a Queen song (I’m thinking Bohemian Rhapsody) where the singer says :Well, that just blew Queen off the stage.

A deep conversation about what pants to wear if you wanted your ‘knob’ to look hot. One guy saying “sometimes I just put a bit of broccoli down there”.

And a character saying “I’m sorry, I think my rectum just prolapsed when I hit that note.” Another “Oh my god, do we have a nappie roadie?”

When I hear it, I think I’ll know it, but I haven’t known enough to google it.

 Thanks

Bad News?

Oh bless you.

You scratched that brain itch

Hugging you, assuming you take hugs

Here’s the fun thing–what I listened to was a cassette tape. Had no idea about that video which is really making me laugh.

Thanks again!

It’s been done for me so many times it’s good to give back.

I’ve got the set of Comic Strip Presents… on DVD. A bit uneven, but the Bad News episode was a good one. (I like The Beat Generation, personally.)

Mr Jolly Lives Next Door and Dirty Movie do it for me

ETA: and Strike, Supergrass, War, Fistfull of Travellers Cheques, Consuela - damn, gonna be busy this weekend now!

Where else are you going to hear Ken Livingstone described as a “funky sex machine”?

Eddie Monsoon - A life - is one of my favourites…

I actually saw Bad News at the Reading festival in 1987, I think it was one of the two shows they did as part of the second Bad News programmes… Possibly to get more footage.

If you remember the end of the second, the band is getting a kicking from the audience at Donnington.

Bad News had their charms, but was a riff on Spinal Tap back when nobody had heard of Spinal Tap…

Bad News Tour was broadcast in 1983. This Is Spinal Tap was released in 1984.

I actually have the CD! Bohemian Rhapsody is good, but Masturbike is pure gold!

See what happens when I try to post while I’m working? I fix the code by putting in the wrong character.

It was actually pure coincidence that both were in development at almost exactly the same time: Spinal Tap just slightly beat them to the punch.

My name is Vim Fuego! I let my guitar speak for me! {Wow-ooo-wow-oo-wow-oo-wow-oo-skreee!}

{Sotto voce} That’s because you’re incoherent half the time.

Oh, and The Bullshitters, a cheery piss-take of The Professionals, is fantastic.

Ah. I always assumed it was other way around… Mainly because I thought Spinal Tap was earlier…

Yeah, but for some reason, Spinal Tap wasn’t released in the UK until years later.

Too close to the truth. We couldn’t handle our Rock Gods being ripped so mercilessly back then.
