I was in a store yesterday, and found a couple of bags of coffee beans. One was labelled “Blue Mountain Blend”, the other “Kona Blend”. Now, as coffee experts know Hawaiian “Kona” coffees, and Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee are among the rarest and most expensive coffees in the world. I don’t know about Kona, but real Jamaica Blue Mountain costs about $25/lb. in Jamaica. Neither container specified just what percentage of the blend that these coffee beans were-I suspect it was low.
At any rate, can a “blend” be less than 1% of the main ingredient listed? I went to this firm’s website, and the proportions of the beans (making up these blends) was not listed either.
So can blended coffees be like the “Three Stooges” chicken sop (i.e. water that the chicken walked through)?
Or does US Law specify some minimum percentage of the main ingredients?
