A question concerning the Amelia Peabody series.

Does her son Walter, AKA Ramses have Asperger syndrome?

“characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction, alongside restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests. It differs from other autism spectrum disorders by its relative preservation of linguistic and cognitive development. Although not required for diagnosis, physical clumsiness and atypical (peculiar, odd) use of language are frequently reported.”

I don’t think so. Ramses is smart, probably a genius. But he interacts well with others, when he choses. He he has close family and friends, and can blend in with the Egyptian native population as though he’s a native. He just doesn’t suffer fools and doesn’t care to make others happy by behaving accourding to Edwardian societal norms.

A strange limited interest in Egyptology from his early youth.
Strange use of language.
Withdrawn as an adult, and he becomes increasingly violent as the series progresses…:dubious:

Admittedly, the last Amelia Peabody book I read was when Ramses and Nefrit’s twins were starting to talk. Ramses personality changed from the war and his work as a spy, IFRC.
