If you could be a criminal lawyer like the ones on TV, would you rather be a prosecutor or defense attorney? Why?
Definitely prosecutor.
I’d hate to have to defend some of the scumbags that I’ve seen, either on the tube or in real life
::whispers::“juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuiiicccce…”
…besides, if I got to work next to Abbie Carmichael: “whooo-hooo!!!”
Well, since Bobby Donnel has done it with both, I don’t much care.
If I were a defense attorney, I’d be afraid I’d get depressed like Eugene. Of course, if I were a prosecutor, I would get an eating disorder like Lara Flynn Boyle (who was normal looking on Twin Peaks). If I were anyone on L&O, my career would be limited to a season or two.
First, a disclaimer. I am not a lawyer, but I act as a prosecutor in administrative hearings.Based on that experience, if I were to become a lawyer, I would be a prosecutor, not a defense attorney, for a few reasons.First,I know I would have an opinion about a client’s guilt, and I don’t think I would feel comfortable helping someone guilty go free.( yes, someone has to defend the guilty, but that someone doesn’t have to be me)Second, once a defense attorney takes a case, they’re pretty much stuck with it. I can withdraw charges if there isn’t enough evidence, and the DA (at least here) can decline to prosecute if there isn’t enough evidence, but defense attorneys really don’t have that option. An individual attorney can ask to be relieved,but at some point,some defense attorney will be stuck with it.Third,defendants can be their own worst enemy-they won’t follow their lawyer’s advice and don’t accept a plea bargain or insist on testifying and then give a ridiculous story- and then blame the attorney for the bad outcome
Prosecutor, definitely. I don’t think I could sleep at night as a criminal defense attorney.
