Great idea. How much does one pay for a subscription to a free paper?
It varies. Here in Baltimore, The Straight Dope appears in the City Paper. Although it costs me nothing to pick up a copy from a newsstand or cafe it would cost me seventy-five dollars for a year’s subscription.
Custum titles for $10 a year is the best I can come up with.
If somone wanted a custom title, they would email it in for approval. On approval, they send payment. The title is added when payment is recieved, and the date of title experation is noted.
There would be an agreement that states that all they get for thier money is the title, and that there are no refunds, special treatment, ect.
The whole thing could be pulled off by a few volunteers. The operation could be totally seperate from the Reader, one of the volunteer group would be a mod who could add the titles, or they could be emailed to the sdmb staff.
Stupid idea? Maybe, but I think it would be cool to try.
So how about we all buy t-shirts for ourselves, friends, family, etc… That could generate quite a large chunk of cash. Would that help?
I’ve always wanted to buy one. I’m just not sure if I would have the nerve to wear it out in public 
I have an idea on how to make the forums a bit faster. Use a more efficient forum script. VBulletin is built for flexibility, at the loss of speed. Every time we type up a post and hit enter, it does a query for every word we use. It calls gigantic templates from mysql. It is a tremendous strain on the server. Surely we have a few PHP programmers that could write SMDB specific forum scripts? I could try, but I can’t say that I’m the most qualified.

In case you’re wondering, I wasn’t trying to insult you. In D&D, rolls of the dice are expressed in terms of things like “3d6”, which is shorthand for “roll 3 6-sided dice and sum the score”. Just seeing the “d6” in your name made me think of that.
