Thank you Dopers. A while ago I bought season 1 and a couple of weeks ago got around to watching it. I devoured the whole lot in 4 days. This week I dropped in to JB Hi-Fi and found all the other series for $15 each. Now I am part way through season 2 and it is even better!
I love how the whole second series hinges on two “random” things Major Stan Valchek fighting with Frank Sobotka over stained glass windows at their old church and Jimmy McNulty trying to stick his old squad with all the Jane Does It reminds me of the great Aussie movie Lantana which is a murder mystery in which there is no murder
So thanks again, I have many hours of viewing pleasure ahead of me.
Isn’t it great? My daughter is watching the final season. She’s been watching for months. She refuses to watch the last three episodes because she says then it’ll really be over.
I just finished Season Four over the weekend and it’s my favorite so far. Each season has been very good though w/ the first season being the weakest I think.
Wanted to also add my thanks. Heard about the series here and have gone through the first three seasons so far. Some outstanding acting, great ensemble cast, lots of realism but still address issues, and best of all, it reminds me of my good times living in Baltimore, even if it’s not always Charm City.
Thanks to everyone that mentioned or recommended it.
I think we can talk about favorite scenes without spoiling the plot for new viewers. Most of my favorite S2 scenes involve Ziggy. Ziggy dropping trou. Ziggy and the duck. Ziggy and his new coat. Ziggy and the letter from the lawyer. Nick’s mom fixing breakfast for Ziggy.
I’ve been meaning to thank everyone, too, especially AuntiePam for pimping this show. It’s the absolute best writing and acting I’ve ever seen on television. My favorite scene? The fuckity fuck fucking brilliant Bunk and McNulty evidence collection scene.
Anyone else notice a marked deterioration in their ability to self censor after watching an episode or two? I just watched 5 seasons in two months and I haven’t sworn this much since I was 15 fucking years old.
Definitely. Deadwood has the same effect on me. I’ve actually had the thought, “You’re at work! You must not use the phrase ‘limber-dicked cocksucker.’”
Love, love, love The Wire. Season 4 is my favorite. That season broke my heart, but, damn, what good television.
