A Raiders of the Lost Ark question

Several blogs! Dayum. Now if it had been one blog, or two blogs, well, the question is open. But several? Case closed motherfucker!

Better than one epi of one TV show.

Now, this is why this forum needs a ‘like’ button.

There is a whole tribe of natives that worship the idol. It’s their temple, and they are maintaining the traps.

And yet they don’t have a single warrior defending it?!

They had a whole bunch of warriors defending it. They chased Indy.

That’s ridiculous. So when you defend something valuable do you prevent someone from entering, post guards at the entrance and inside? Or hang around waiting for them to leave, so you can chase them afterwards?

I guarantee you that not a single one of those guys ever set foot in there. It’s overgrown with vegetation, they have to push their way through thick webs. I doubt anyone had been in there for many years.

Maybe they were crouching on the other side of the wall, manning the blowguns?

Haha, I love the visual of that.

They likely didnt guard it as they thought the jungle and the traps would do that.

What right did Jones have to steal tribal artifacts?

His reasoning seemed to be, “This belongs in a museum.” And that’s better than the other guy getting it and perhaps melting it down.

Maybe the booby traps allowed the tribe to leave the temple unguarded while they went about other business, or maybe they were bowling. But, if Belloq made nice with the tribe, as we see after the boulder scene when Indy exits and is surrounded, they could have just gave the idol to Belloq in the first place and be done with it.

BTW, it occurs to me that the ability to cut a large boulder into what seemed to be a perfect sphere is almost more interesting than the idol itself.

Cultural appropriation!

Belloq wasn’t going to melt it down. He was going to sell it for BIG MONEY to someone else, for their museum.

Ignoring the auto reloading blow guns in Raiders, how about the magical stone bridge over the bottomless chasm in Crusade? Who rebuilds that? (don’t say God. What does God need with a bridge?) Besides, all you need to cross that is five or six “volunteers”. Eventually one will step on the solid blocks, or all the other blocks will be gone.

Or, you know - a stick.

A stick always works.

I thought that the magical bridge in Crusade was supposed to be an optical illusion. If it was, it would have to be immaculate or else dust and footprints.

Would you prefer the KotKS solution of guards hiding inside the walls?
