a rant about work

I work part-time at a non-profit thrift store which relies on donations for the public. We really appreciate the support we get from our community. HOWEVER, I wish people would think before they load up and haul their stuff done to us. We can’t sell any of the following:

dirty, ripped up furniture
urine stained mattresses
clothing your pet has peed all over
baby stuff your little darling has drooled (and worse) all over
rusty bedsprings
large appliances
sweat stained shoes, boots, or sandals
boxes of books stored so long they have that ineffable musty smell

AND DON’T GET YOUR PANTIES IN A BUNCH IF WE TURN DOWN YOUR NOT-SO-VALUABLE DONATION. JUST TAKE TO THE DUMP LIKE YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE!

And just where, exactly, is a person looking to buy a urine stained mattress suposed to go then, hmmmmm?

Da noive!

I used to work for a battered women’s shelter, and every now and then we’d get a “donation” that was downright * insulting, * like boxes of food that have been opened and half of the contents used, broken appliances (like a microwave missing the door), nasty ripped and stained/soiled clothing, books with half of their pages missing, and dolls with missing eyes, limbs, and once even a doll with a missing head.

Gee, thanks for the staggering display of generosity, folks.
