It was hardly a conclusive, or even a persuasive, discussion of the question. Unless one considers “this is the way we’ve been doing it, we’re not going to change, and that’s that” to be persuasive.
The troubling thing about the board administration is that it encourages fighting ignorance with respect to everything other than how the board is, or might be, run. DrMatrix, don’t be seduced by the dark side.
So you say. In the cited thread, I proposed what seemed like a reasonable way of finessing that problem, a way that’s been tried elsewhere with some success. And there the thread died.
We’re not saying that other options are impossible. We’re just saying we choose not to exploit them.
And c’mon, RTF. “The troubling thing about the board administration is that it encourages fighting ignorance with respect to everything other than how the board is, or might be, run.”
A bit dramatic, I’d say. We’re all working very hard to keep this puppy up and running in the most enjoyable way for everyone. The fact that things like edit functions, new smilies, and new user-suggested fora aren’t on the top of our priority lists doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate them. It merely means we’re busy doing other things. Like moderating MPSIMS for posts that belong in ATMB or perhaps the Pit. This thread, as you may recall, was a request about being careful with personal information. It was not meant as a debating platform for all the various circumstances that lead to the need to be careful.
“It was hardly a conclusive, or even a persuasive, discussion of the question. Unless one considers “this is the way we’ve been doing it, we’re not going to change, and that’s that” to be persuasive.”
But trust me: it is conclusive, at least for now.
