A Rather Strange Poll About Sleeping and Feet

What?? No posts from MyfootZZZZ??

I need my feet covered. I can’t sleep with socks on. Even on hot days I’d prefer a thin sheet over me.

Sheet over the feet, for sure.

A related story, I’ve always rocked back and forth when I use the facilities for waste removal. Recently, I brought up this fact to my mother  (for some reason it came up in conversation).

When she was a tot she had a rocking potty, late 1930’s, and she has since then rocked back and forth while reliving her bowels. I have never seen my mother reliving her bowels, yet I do this also! Very weird.

I’m another that needs some cover, even a thin sheet, to sleep under no matter how hot it is.

My feet must always be able to access the freedom of open air. The blankets must not be tucked in so I can have them tucked under my body. In summer, the modified mummy is just having my midsection covered. I hate sleeping bags. They’re all wrong.

(By the way, Jim is just the opposite - his sheets must be tucked in, and his feet must always be covered. Our bed has half of the sheet tucked in, and the other half hanging loose.)

I also like my sheets to be tucked in, almost like being trapped in bed. I guess that may have something do do with why I can’t fall asleep unless I’m under a blanket (feet included).

Must. Have. Covers.

Without something covering me, I feel so…exposed. Yech.

I will very occasionally wake up too hot and do the “feet out” method of cooling and I can go right back to sleep.

Another must-be-covered person here.

I must have something covering the lower half of my body.

I like to think that it’s out of public awareness, since I sleep with my bedroom door open (it opens onto the backyard) and my bed can be seen from three neighbours’ yards.

But I know that’s not truly the case.

I could be covered in the filmiest silk and I would be fine. For that reason I figure it is a fig-leaf of sorts, leftover from my youth when I was taught nudity = damnation.

Growing up, my brother and sister and I all needed to have socks on and needed to have our feet covered (how covered varied…but definitely covered.)

We’ll actually wake up and re-cover them if for some reason they become uncovered. No matter how how hot it is. Covered, socked feet.

I’ve no idea if that’s still true for them, but it is for me. Even if it’s really hot, the covers will be folded down, so my feet can stay covered. My pillows stay at the foot of the bed for the additional weight and covering.

Sortof the same here, I’ve always needed to have SOMETHING covering me, no matter how hot it is (even if it’s just a strip of sheet over my middle, but frequently have to have something over my feet too.

No covers or socks for the feet! Ack! The thought of wearing socks to bed actually makes my skin crawl (no offense to people who wear socks to bed – I understand this is a personal preference thing, I just mean that socks on my own personal feet are a no-no). I’m the opposite of Marley23, if my feet are HOT, I feel almost sick – as if I have a foot fever.

Not only that, in ideal sleeping conditions, I like to have at least one foot hanging off the bed. Yes, I know this seems counterintuitive, as it tempts The Monster Under the Bed, but I like to think of it as an Early Warning System. Mr. Del, early on, thought it would be a hoot to tickle my foot when he saw me sleeping this way, and was rewarded with a sharp kick. I only woke up when he yelped in pain. I feel vaguely sorry about this, but not that sorry.

I must have my feet warm to fall asleep, as well as my hands. This usally means I need to have the covers over them both and my hands under the side of my pillow. I read somewhere about insomnia that people who suffer from it should consider if their feet and/or hands are cold.

I cannot sleep at all with anything on my feet. On the rare occasions that my feet are cold, I cover them for maybe a few minutes, then I kick the covers off.

featherlou, I’m with you…half bed has covers tucked in and half not tucked. I CAN’T STAND having anything on my feet and they’ll be bare at any opportunity. My husband thinks I’m a freak because of this. He also has 5 blankets covering him all year round. I can’t sleep under the same covers 'cause all I want is one thin blanket…not covering my feet. I feel trapped when my body’s completely covered unless I’m extremely cold.

Depends. I can’t sleep if my feet are hot, so I often poke them out from under the covers. I can’t sleep if my feet are cold, either, so I often wear socks to bed in the winter and huddle under as many blankets as possible.

Regardless of the status of the feet, I’ve got to have covers on the rest of my body, preferably up to my chin and ears. This leads to some interesting contortions in the summer, especially while our AC is out. I’ve often found myself with the sheets pulled up around my head, and my knees hooked back over the edge of the sheet so my feet can be cool.

One of my ex’s could NOT go to sleep without socks on. Of course, she didn’t wear anything else to bed. It was a rather unusual sight, invoking thought of some cheesy porn sites where all the girls have on are a pair of ankle socks and a rather bored expression on their faces.

Intriguing to see how strong the impression of our parents’ teachings on even the little things we do, isn’t it?

My mother taught us girls to always wear panties. Asleep or awake, you must wear your panties. This is so ingrained that it’s impossible for me to sleep without them.

Re: the poll - I’m a “temperature regulator”. I stick one foot out from under the covers as needed.

Another thing I noticed - there’s an awful lot of folks who worry about the Monster Under the Bed. A poll on that would be interesting too.

OK, I’m wierd again. I don’t care whether or not my feet are covered, but the shoulder that’s facing up (I sleep on my side) must be covered. This was even true during the 7 years I spent in Hawaii without air conditioning. The rest of me can be bare, but my shoulder must be covered. Also, tightly tucked in bedclothes will be undone – I can’t wrap myself up in and burrow into tightly tucked in sheets.

The thing is, the guy I nearly married was not into having anything covering him. I still remember one morning after we’d spent the night on a friend’s sofa bed. He was sound asleep with his bare feet sticking off the end of the bed when our friend’s very large, furry dog decided to wake him up by taking my old love’s foot in his mouth. I won’t even try to spell the sound he made, and, while I do feel sorry for him, it was hilarious!

I’m the opposite of the op. I prefer my feet uncovered. I pull the sheet or blanket so that it is across my thighs, rump and back and have my feet, arm and head out.
