If you can stand reading James Michenor, his book “Chesapeake” paints a beautiful picture of 17th and 18th century Maryland. His style is to tell the geographic history of a place from its geological beginnings to present day using fictional characters in a reasonbly historic setting. I don’t normally read his stuff but after spending a few summers sailing on the Chesapeake, I wanted to read whatever I could find. His storys are fairly good, but his attention to historic detail and depictions of lifestyles are excellent.
Re: Louis Goldstein–hadn’t he been Comptroller since the 16th century?
Seemed like it.
