A real man's supper.

My wife is going out to eat with a friend of hers on wednesday. So yesterday I bought a NY Strip, about 1.5-1.75 inches thick.

Normally, I’d cook a potato with it, and grill it Rare-Medium Rare but with the tomatoes so great right now, I’m probably just going to slice up a big fat tomato, cover everything with salt and pepper and maybe drizzle a little oil & vinegar on the 'mato.

A big red wine to accompany.

I’ll agree with ‘a man’s gotta have his MEAT’ philosoply, but I’m a Well Done kinda guy. I always tell the waiter that I’m a carbon based life form and I needs me some more carbon. When they start to say they aren’t responsible for any steaks ordered well done, my reply is to Burn It. Mmmm crispy, crunchy carbon blackened steak. Yeah, I know you ‘rare’ folk think I’m wasting it. Each to their own.

I’ve got half a freezer full of meat. My father bought 1/4 of a cow. He lives in the country, and bought the rear quarter of a cow from a friend who was having it butchered and had them do it his way. All the prime steaks, a few roasts, and the rest into lean hamburger. No cheap roasts or steaks were made, anything less than prime was turned into hamburger. He got the whole thing for $3.04 per pound… for 140 pounds of beef! His freezer is full, his friends freezer is full, and he sent me home a couple weeks ago with a cooler stuffed with it.

This stuff is so good, it doesn’t need any spices or marinades. Just a touch of pepper and some grilled onions and mushrooms to keep it company on the plate.

I am such a failure as a girly-girl. Switch the wine for a good dark beer and this sounds like a fun night.
