A Really Dumb Question about Hakuna Matata

Hakuna Matata…what a wonderful phrase! It’s also the source of something that’s bugged me for a while.

So when Pumbaa was a young warthog (when he was a young. wart. hoooooooog!) he was mad because he would clear the savannah after farting, and was especially mad that his friends “never stood downwind”. Shouldn’t that be upwind? If his friends were upwind, then they wouldn’t smell HIS wind. Am I right? Or do I not know how wind works?

Wind blows from upwind to downwind. It makes sense that if Pumbaa lets one rip no one wants to be downwind of him, and if he does it enough, no one would be standing downwind of him.

So I think you are taking it differently. As I see it you are saying that Pumbaa is PO’s that his friends never happen to be upwind at the time he lets one rip, always they just happen to be downwind. While I take it as Pumbaa has such a reputation for it that the friends refuse to be downwind of him and that PO’s him.

Right. He was so famously stinky that his friends wouldn’t risk being in the splash zone, so to speak.
