A really good doggy food cook book?

I am looking for a really good cookbook for my dog (a golden retriever 72lbs).

I was on Amazon but it seems like everyone has something negative to say about such and such book using canned food, or this book using corn as an ingredient…does anyone here have a personal recommendation?

While there may be factual answers involved, and Cafe Society could also be a fit, I like this more in IMHO where you can get opinions also. Moved from GQ.

I have Home-Prepared Dog & Cat Diets: the Healthful Alternative. Most of the recipes are for dogs in the 30-lb. range, but you can extrapolate out for the right amounts for your dog - that’s what I did for my greyhound, who was the same weight as your Golden.

It has diets for both healthy dogs and for those with certain health conditions, and was written by a veterinary gastroenterologist who practiced at UC Davis before he retired. It’s the only book I know of on homemade diets that was written by a veterinary specialist. I learned a ton of stuff from this book, and was able to use what I’d learned to evaluate other recipes and whether they’d be appropriate for my dog (who had inflammatory bowel disease, so it was important for me to be able to do this in relation to his issues).

You might also want to check out Monica Segal’s site. She’s a veterinary nutritionist and she has a free newsletter you can sign up for. There’s also a free Yahoo group she moderates called K9Kitchen that you can subscribe to as well. She also helped me enormously with my dog’s issues. There are also other people in the group who are very knowledgable about feeding homemade food and have been doing it for a long time.

The Three Dog Bakery Cookbook is a good one, and pretty cheap for a used copy.

I don’t know much about dog food, but ‘Looking for doggy food cook book’ would’ve had all 'O’s. :frowning:
