A River Runs Through It (Wide Open Sky Spoilers)

I just re watched this movie yesterday.

Does anyone know from the book(I listened to it years ago on tape a but can’t remember) why Did Norman and Paul have the fight in the kitchen after the trip down the falls in the ‘borrowed’ boat?
Does anyone know why all of the bones on Paul’s left hand were broken?

I cannot remember right off why exactly the brother’s fought. I think that the scene mainly exemplified their differences in world view and the subsequent respect of those differences. The two never fought again after that.

The bones in Paul’s left hand were broken because he was either killed during a fight or he defended himself up until death. (If I remember correctly he was a lefty, which lead to his unique casting style.) Again, I think the broken bones were mentioned to exemplify Paul’s
hard-nosed tenacity.

Why do you ask these particular questions?

I’ll take a look at the book if I can get a break from tying flies and preparing gear for my fishing trip this weekend.

Yep, the book doesn’t say why exactly they fought. It just talks about how inevitable it was that they get into at least on big brawl due to their different philosophies.

Again, it’s just a tool to exemplify that they both were very tough in their own way, and respected that about one another.
