I could just ask a doctor (and I will, as you shall see). But this is a simple question I was hoping you all could field. And I hope I am just being irrational when I ask it.
I got my final Pfizer COVID a couple of months ago. The only thing is I was already taking my blood thinner by then. And although they injected the muscle (this is why I hope I’m just being silly), I bled quite a bit.
Is there any chance I could have bleed the inoculation out? I already asked a couple of people. And they said No. I also may have asked my pharmacist. As I pointed out, they do inject the muscle.
I am under a doctor’s care. And don’t worry, I will ask him this question the next time I see him.
Hey, where is that smart doctor guy who used to post on these boards? Mercotan or something weird like that, I believe was his name. I’ll love to hear what he’d have to say.
Again I am under a doctor’s care. And I will bring this up with him.
I would not think an intramuscular injection could be bled out, but mostly I am replying to tag @Qadgop_the_Mercotan , who does still post here pretty regularly and is indeed a smart doctor guy.
And I have nothing to answer your question, but just a helpful hint! You remembered enough of his name to have found it easily and tagged him. Just type the at-sign and then ‘mercotan’ and everyone whose name matches that comes up. Looks like we have two: Qadgop and Eowyn. Select the right one from the drop-down, it when you post, he’ll get notified!
It’s unlikely that the bleeding would wash the injection out, as the bleeding usually is due to piercing of a larger than normal venule (small vein) in the muscle. Sticking a small artery (arteriole) is far less likely. When such structures are pierced, it’s due to the needle going through it on its way deeper into the muscle, so the injection is usually beneath the bleeding site, and hence doesn’t come out with the blood in significant amounts.
Is it impossible to get enough washout to make the inoculation ineffective? Probably not. Just very, very unlikely. Unfortunately it’s tough to do precise research on that sort of thing.
There are several other physicians here, and I’m a licensed pharmacist.
The answer, in short, is “probably no.” The solution diffuses pretty well into the muscle, and like QtM said, the needle probably punctured a small vessel en route.
Grizzled veteran vaccination nurse here to agree, it’s highly unlikely that you bled out a sufficient amount of the vaccine~the vaccine is clear but you saw some blood, not .3ml of clear vaccine fluid. Blood looks dramatic, even in small amounts. Lots of people who were vaccinated are on blood thinners, that’s not a problem-plus, you were injected twice which is it’s own little back up.
