A simple pleasure

Last week was horrendous. For reasons I won’t go into now, I was a physical and emotional wreck. Since Saturday night, however, I’ve discovered, the simplest things can bring great joy, even times of deep despair.

I am sitting in the bedroom of my 200+ year old house. I love the place, it has such character, and has a “warm” feeling to it. But the best part, the simple pleasure that has comforted me the past few nights is the fireplace in my bedroom.

I have a huge, crackling fire going right now. Outside, it’s cold and rainy, but right here, I have a warm fire, some hot cocoa with teeny tiny marshmallows, and a comfy bed. I can’t think of any place I’d rather be.

Sometimes, the simplest things are the most complex.

Wow…now that sounds great! My kinda hide-away.

And hey…hugs help too.

A fireplace and cocoa…yep, sounds like you’re in the right place. It is amazing how profoundly comforting it can be to just break life down to its smallest parts for a short while. When everything is overwhelming, to concentrate on something as seemingly mundane as a cup of cocoa can give that respite that your soul needs.

I forgot to mention the flannel pj’s too… so cozy! I just added a bunch more wood to the fire, so hopefully it’ll keep burning well.

::goes back to sit in front of the fire and think::

It felt kind of good just to think about it for a moment. I enjoyed my fireplace when I had one.

Glad you’ve got a comfy zone, Rasa; thanks for sharin’ it with us.

A nice gentle snow fall.

Good Gods, no! No snow! Well, not unless it falls and looks all pretty, then magically disappears when I get up in the morning… sure it looks nice, but it’s cold and icky and wet!

I didn’t think they had 200 year old houses out there.
Were there people in California before the gold rush? (Besides the natives who used tents)

 Oops. Just double checked, and you live in RI.
I think I’m confusing you with someone else, Old Nick

Nope, it’s the same ol’ Rasa. I moved back to RI in August.

The fire got sorta… smoky. Very smoky. But still going, and still warm.
