A singing technique query.

Singers move the mic away from their mouth at the end of each vocal part, either by turning the head, pulling the mic away, or some other method. I’ve always assumed this was to prevent amplification of the sharp intake of breath between parts.
Now I wonder if my assumption is correct. I know there are many pros out in SDMB land, so I come to you for validation. :wink:
