And kittens. Found that out the hard way. Buy the spray. I just used some on my truck, where the air conditioning compressor belt was starting to scream at me.
Yes it’s the belt(s).
My son-in-law’s 91 SL2 lasted until last year, and it died because the parking lot got flooded, not because it wore out. He didn’t have money to do anything but oil changes most of that time, and '91s were not the best made cars.
My '98 SL2 just hit 140K miles and is still running great.
My advice is to find a general purpose mechanic you can trust.
Not likely. 6 years for a battery is a long time. 4-5 years is about the normal life span. since this was a low mileage car 6 years is about right.
I had a '94 Saturn for about a year and a half…traded it in at 120,000 miles (I was commuting a long distance and used the car all day at work). In the early 90s, GM was using some really crappy batteries. I remember going through a couple in the first six months before I finally went to Sears and bought a Die Hard that lasted the rest of the life of the car. My aunt had a '93 Olds that had the same issue over and over again for about a year.
I had this issue in the Saturn starting around 50,000 miles and several other cars that I’ve owned.
Your ignition switch is wearing out and when you pull the key out, the little switch inside the keyhole that tells the car that the key is in the ignition is not pulling out along with the key. So the little ding-ding thing thinks the key is still in the ignition. Open your door and push the key in and out several times and you might be able to stop the dinging…until the next time you start the car when it’ll probably get stuck again.
Try rubbing some soap on the key (just kidding…but it might actually work.)
