I respect your decision Tatertot, but I am most distressed by it. I shall sulk the remainder of the day. Well, till I get off from work at least. No sense in wasting a good sulk on a Friday.
Why this preoccupation with oranges?
Since I wasn’t planning to start a 500th post party thread yawn, I guess I’ll put my 500th right here.
I agree, post parties are a waste of space. It’s all the original silliness that makes MPSIMS so much fun.
Oh, and I have a small surgical scar in my navel, but I guess that’s TMI…
Is this where we sign up to post that ChiefScott’s Naval?
**Euty,**you mean things like:
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=55026
Right?
Just checking.
I’ve got a small surgical scar above my navel, and a long one below it, but both are pretty much obscured by the stretch marks…
Sure hope no one was eating while reading the preceeding tidbit…
“He jests at scars who never felt a wound.”
I’ll see your dinky little scar [clink] and raise you one huge vertical surgical scar that makes my navel look weird [clink clink].
…must resist urge to post how great taternavel looks after recent bout with flu…
Guys, the obvious thing to do is to make long time here/low post count socially desriable. I have a few suggestions:
-
This could be a great new form of ad hominium when things are going badly. “I’m supposed to trust the facts of a guy that averages 12.3 posts daily? Obviously you type more than you research!” Note to self: Do not use on David B.
-
I suggest the introduction of a mild yet slightly insulting term. Whenever we have a new poster who seems driven to reach 500 in thier first month we should all say “Whoa, boy, we’ve got another handy coming down the pipeline!” ( I say this with the greatest respect for handy–he is an essential part of the board. The idea is to discourage youngters from trying to replicate his greatness.)
Obviously, My own low post count in no way biases me here.
You wanted quality, not quantity?
I must have misread that original email.
Oh, haaaandy . . . you have to have at least three sentences in every post, dude! Your count’s down to 45.
Hey - let’s take this thread to 10,000 posts by having everyone on the SDMB post “agree” here!
Wait…what, a package for me? OK, I’ll - mmmph! Mmmph help! Help, he’s mmmphhhh!
NO CARRIER
That’s one of the nicest compliments I’ve ever received!
As the creator of the “Threadkillers” genre of threads, I humbly apologize for it. Last year, the first Threadkillers contest only got to about 9 pages, and was actually quite fun, and even had a bit of substance. This year’s was…a bit different.
Again, I’m sorry for starting it, and I promise never to do it again.

Very punny, Uke. Very punny.
Cool w/me, Euty. Just don’t ask me to give up my Dopefests.
Oh, and virtual breasts.
And fart jokes.
The “Guy Stuff” thread. Now there was a long thread with substance (what substance we don’t know, but it was probably illegal)!
wow… I am lucky… nobody complained about the lats word hehehe
dodgy
Hey! I was just about to ask where to go to pick up my monkey. (300 posts and all, ya know.)
Let me see if I’m reading this correctly Euty. Is it still okay for me to post wise-assed comments and lame jokes? ‘Cause if we have to go strictly on posts with some redeeming social value, my post count would be…umm….10? (I’m counting all the threads where I’ve urged people to stop smoking.)
BTW, I, for one, have grown rather fond of Tatertot’s navel. Perhaps you could talk about some other part of your anatomy, Tater?
Um… well we don’t want our dear Tatertot thinking she only looks good after losing weight due to illness…
Hey Chief Scott, you did come up with an alibi for that time frame right?
In the paper last month some guy stole a beer truck in TN., and he is still at large as far as I know.
And what about that “The Last Word” thread? That thing got almost as long as “Guy Stuff”!
[sub]Though I recently started a thread that got to . . . well, a lot of replies, so perhaps I should shut my hole.[/sub]
Can we get rid of the “I am going to make X come up with a funny name for everybody” thread genre? These seem to come and go, but when somebody does one there are usually 83 (yes, I’ve counted) within the next week.
On a more serious note, would turning off signatures help with server load? Since they are not stored as part of the post and must be looked up and inserted for every post I would think that would really slow things down for large threads as well.
