A strange cat thinks it lives in my house (pics, of course)

Awww. Hugs to you-I’m sure the kitty’s people were distraught over the thought of losing their fuzzer. Thanks for helping reunite them.

you know, Mika, you could always go and get yourself a kitty fix…
of course, for the proper dose, you WOULD need two kitties…
yes, that’ll do it…two kitties…spread the feline gospel

Beat me to it. I was pretty much going to say the same thing: don’t give cats milk. Water is what they need.

Overall – and regardless of whether or not this pushes you to go down to your local Humane Society, and get yourself claimed by your very own beautiful [del]overlord[/del] kitty (cue *cooing *sound here. Hint, hint… :D) – you did the all-around right thing, all the way through.

Sorry Mika. :frowning:

Ya know, the shelter that I used to volunteer at has more kitties than they can handle right now. They’re really really looking for good homes. Hint, hint.

Nice kitty, especially one that’s been on the run as a stray. Fine looking coat and a very contented look on its face.

We’ve taken in a few strays or surplus kittens from other houses and the strays usually end up being most affectionate, for no other reason perhaps than having someone be nice to them for the first time in a while.

That’s a cute video. And I like your laugh. It sounds cute, unaffected, and genuinely joyful.

You guys are not kidding. I really want one of my own now…but a nice kitty. Not a bitchy kitty.

I may hit the Humane Society in Watervliet tomorrow (sorry taxi, got one right in my backyard.) And see.

How do I convince the SO???

I’m not sure how you make sure it’s a nice kitty. My experience has been that cats are pretty much themselves even in the Shelter; you’d probably want one (or two) who is lively, friendly and normal even in the cage there. They’ll probably let you take the cat (or kitten) to a play room and play with them for a while to see if you like each other.

I’d recommend a girl kittie, too. Our girls are absolutely phenomenal at being forgiving of their humans’ slowness in cleaning the litter boxes.

How to convince the SO? I might suggest a dirty trick like bringing the kitties home and letting him bond with them. (Assuming he’s not deathly allergic or something.) Sometimes non-cat people have to get to know them to realize that they’re not like they thought at all.

Talk to the volunteers at the shelter. They work with the kitties all the time and know which ones are nice and which aren’t. Just make sure you tell them what you’re looking for - a playful active kitty or a cuddly, quiet kitty or whatever. Their idea of a “nice” kitty may differ from yours if you’re looking for one that sits on your lap and cuddles while they’re thinking of a really playful cat. Or vice versa. Those can be very different experiences and can make or break a new relationship with a cat. (Says the girl who had to take a kitty back to a shelter because she (the cat, not me!) was just WAY too hyper and more than I could handle when I was just starting grad school. If that’s not what you want, make sure they know that.)

Kitties are the best! Good luck.

She was a pretty thing! I’m sorry you got attached and had to give her up (but I’m sure you made her family really happy).

Most people think that neutered boy kitties are more friendly than spayed girl kitties, but boy kitties are more likely to “mark” their territory with pee.

That said, the most inveterate litterbox refuser I have ever known was a girl kitty, and a calico. She got a new lease on life as a barn kitty, where she has grown exceedingly plump on mice and can pee where she likes.

I agree with the previous poster – just spend some time with them till you find one that “clicks.”

Well, the one thing rule that’s true for all cats is that there is an exception for every rule about cats.

Put the cat in a window where it can see birds and squirrels if you want to hear it click. :stuck_out_tongue:
