A tech support moment

I’m sure you all have heard them… tales of tech support. Most are pretty funny, we’ve all heard of the cdrom trays being used as cup holders, the footpedel (mouse) not working, etc… If you’ve ever wondered about the validity of these, trust me, they are real. As real as real can be.

Well, after being involved in tech support for as long as I have these type of things no longer really effect me. In the beginning I used to love sharing stories such at the older gentleman that placed the 3 1/2" floppy on his cdrom tray and forced it shut. Now its just all old hat, I run accross stuff like that everyday and it doesn’t even phase me.

However, a few minutes ago I was accessing a users internet account to find out why he was unable to log on and get his email. Remember, he called ME.

I found the problem and said, “Oh, heres the problem, your mailbox has been disabled.”

“What?” he replied kind of shocked.

I hear his fast walking through the house and then a door opens. I can clearly hear the sounds of outside.

He says, and i’m not making this up, “No its not, its sitting right there!”

And THAT ladies and gentlemen are the kinds of things I get to deal with everyday.

=)

Wow. You should’ve told him that you’re going to send tech support out to his home to re-enable it again. Who couldn’t use a firmware upgrade on their mailbox?

Not quite so dim, but still pretty foolish:

At work we use Lotus Notes mail. For those who don’t know it, the All Documents folder is the one true master list, where all messages are stored, and user-created folders are just lists of message numbers referring back there. One of our VPs was cleaning up his mail, and stumbled across All Documents. He recognized a few messages as ones he had put in his own folders, so of course he deleted everything from All Docs. Much hilarity ensued. (Maybe not in his office, but the Helpdesk staff were amused.)

One expects them to lie, but I asked anyway:
“Have you tried to install anything on this PC?”

“Well, No…not lately.”

Suprised no one’s mentioned this one (NSFW)

This may be a hijack, but techs can be stupid too.
