True enough. There isn’t a Muslim “race”.
“Anti-Islamic Bigotry” is the closest correct term, as we don’t have a single English word for “hatred of a single religion”.

How did he know that they were “Muslim”? He made assumptions based on what? He’s not here, but the implication is that the indicators were visual. Dark skin does not make you a practicing Muslim. If you think it’s more likely that these were completely caucasian people who somehow made it clear that they were followers of Islam, fine. He’s a bigot, not a racist. We’ll agree to disagree on that.
btw I would like to see your follow up to post 194. I agree with Chimera. Your thoughts on the topic were interesting and I’d like to see the expansion you mentioned.
Oh yeah, Ramira’s comment that some people took issue with. I thought what she said actually had a lot of information in a condensed form.
My reading of it, and I could be wrong, she’d have to clarify is that in some cultures, including that of the USA, attitudes towards sex are in some ways counterproductive with regards to the consequences of a sexual assault. Especially a sexual assault that doesn’t result in serious physical damage. The idea that sex is taboo and that the value of sexual purity in women especially is high leads to the idea that damage resulting from sexual assault ought to be considered differently from regular assault.
The idea that sex is shameful and a victim of sexual assault has lost value in essence means that those who are sexually assaulted quite often feel shame and other psychological or emotional trauma. This leads to nasty feedback cycle. Because people are conditioned to feel sex a particular way the emotional damage is heightened. Because emotional damage is heightened society feels the need to emphasize the emotional damage that is done.
Well, in the thread where Ramira made her comment I mentioned I’d rather be groped then punched in the nose, I was in the minority. Well, that’s an example of what I mean when I say the taboo/emotional baggage associated with sex, what Ramira calls overly puritanical, is counterproductive.
If we could dispel the notion that sex is shameful or taboo and that sexual activity does not reduce or increase the value of the participant disproportionate response to minor sexual transgressions may be mitigated.
Now obviously this issue is very triggering for many and I don’t expect most of the pit troglodytes to have the real world experiences to understand what I wrote.
I’ve heard a lot about supposed overreactions to “minor sexual transgressions”, but I still don’t think I’ve really seen this in action. From what I can tell, the vast majority of high-profile instances of sexual transgressions have, at least in the last year or so, been responded to with reason and proportionality. Before then, they were largely (or at least very, very often) ignored or minimized. Any counter-examples?
Well, old 8 arms, you make a good point there.
That being said, if someone bent me over a table and anally raped me, I’d feel a whole lot more violated and damaged by it than if they simply beat the shit out of me. Hell, if someone held me down and forced a tube down my throat, I’d feel the same way. Internal penetration is a violation of your body and your dignity.
I can also see where persistent unwanted groping of body parts would get really really old and you might tend toward over-reaction simply because you’re so damned tired of it and you want it to stop happening, period. At some point, the idea of making an example out of someone starts to come to mind, if only as a “See, you assholes? Fucking knock it off already!”
Octopus’ “contribution” in a thread about a fraternity being suspended for a contest in which the members have sex with women they consider undesirable, or “hogging”:

Stay classy, Ocky.
Yeah, it’s like what happens if you share a name with a song, for example. To the person butchering the song to you right after you get introduced it’s a fresh joke; to you it’s person number several hundreds commiting musical atrocity.
The people who’ve groped me in different places have been different jerks. But they were all grabbing the only ass I happen to have (ok, not all: that slobbery dude in a junior disco in Ireland went for the tits instead, but he did that with everybody).
I do sympathize, but don’t your parents deserve some of the blame for naming you Fernando?
I’m overweight myself. Hopefully not for too much longer but since I’m currently plump I feel I’m part of the in group.
Have you ever dated a frat guy?
By your reasoning, then, sex with you would be its own punishment.
But I don’t imagine that comes up very often.
No.
You wound me.

How can one person be that fucking clueless? How many times does he need things explained to him? If he had a brain for each arm, that still wouldn’t be enough.
You wound me.
That was my intention, so good.

I bet if it was a same-sex contest, he’d be all over the University intervening to end the perversity. Republicans are like that.

Someone’s opinion is just that.

Would I care if it were a contest for gay male hogging or whatever? No. You fools and your assumptions make no sense.
What’s silly is your weird world view that adults need protection from having their feelings hurt. Why do you act like a jackass in the pit if feelings matter to you? They don’t. Because you are a sanctimonious hypocrite.
