(to the mods - don’t know if this is right forum; if so, humblest apologies)
I’ve been on unemployment for the past 6 months, receiving one check every two weeks. My most previous check was for the full amount which I have been getting, leaving a surplus of 3 dollars in my remaining balance (a category on the pay stub). Today, in the mail I got a check (for two weeks mind you) for that three dollars; I also received a form to apply for an extension. Shouldn’t I have been paid the three dollars for the first week, and then get the opportunity to apply for the extension?
Anyway, I think that I’m going to hold onto the check for posterity’s sake.
depending on the UI laws in your state, your extention will cover the 2 week period you just received a check for (minus the 3 dollars of course) but you must submit the form by today for it to qualify.
My employer use to give estimated paychecks to everyone just before the Christmas break due to the company shutting down for the holidays. Upon returning to work after the break, those that were still owed pay would receive a check for the difference. In consecutive years my after break checks were for 17 cents and 11 cents. I never cashed them. Around June I would receive a note from payroll telling me that the checks had been voided and the money would be on my next check.
After being fired from a job less than an hour after getting on the clock, I went to get the check on the bus the followoing friday
Amount of check? $2.50. Cost of trip? $1.90.
I’m just curious …How much did you think the check would be for when you didn’t even work one hour. Doesn’t seem that you would expect an amount big enough that you would make a special trip to pick it up. They would have no doubt mailed it to you.
