A track inspector for Union Pacific Railroad organizes volunteers to paint elderly couple's home.

Josh Cyganik and several of his railroad coworkers really came through. A facebook posting pulled in all these volunteers. Even the paint got donated.

this local link has a slideshow showing the work in progress and more information. (click the arrows under the photo) They did it right. scraped, primed, and painted. I think this should last at least 10 to 12 years. They are looking for a roofer to donate time on the roof. Hopefully then the elderly couple can get the house insured again.

There was a Andy Griffith show with a similar story. Andy was supposed to evict this guy for a derelict house. Instead, the town came together to fix it up, landscape etc.

Sure wish that I lived close by. I enjoy projects like this. They’ll need a pro for that roof. It’s too steep to get on without safety harnesses.

Who the fuck cares, you need a blog.

And regardless of where the article you post comes from, we still read it in the Daily Mail

I’d like to formally suggest you keep all these posts contained to one thread. Bump it every day, let it get as long as you want, but I, for one, don’t need to see multiple, random, totally pointless news articles everyday

Wait, let me guess.

“If you don’t like them, ignore my posts”

Har har har, what an original response.

If I’m alone, whatever, but I don’t think I am.

No coffee yet Joey?

Here, this is just from July (that I could find quickly, I didn’t look that hard). Why do you think we need this? Aceplace is the new Zeldar.

(ETA, I think Aceplace was doing this before Zeldar, sorry Zeldar).

Joey P, There’s a perfectly good Pit thread you can use to make your points. Please save this commentary for over there.

I like the OP, makes me remember there are some good hearted people in the world.

I always look forward to positive news like this. There’s so much terrible stuff that gets reported. It’s good to be reminded that there are people out there doing the right thing and trying to make a difference in people’s lives.

I was impressed how quickly they got this organized and the turn out. Social media is a great tool. They had so many people that nobody really had to work very hard. For example, they might have passed out a dozen paint scrapers. They’d work maybe 45 mins and then pass them off to somebody else. There were plenty of fresh arms ready to scrape away.

I’ve always found volunteering to be deeply satisfying. Much more so than just writing a check to a charity. I just wish that I’d had more time to help out. I will do much more after I finally retire in a few more years.

Renews your faith in humanity. Actual good people exist-they are not all Kardashian-types.

Thanks for sharing this! I very much enjoyed reading the article and seeing the house transformed in the pictures.
