It’s tough branding 2.5" as a troll, because part of the definition of trolling involves intent. Trolls want to be trolls. They post things without believing them, intending to spark debates.
Although 2.5" is deliberately provoking people, I honestly believe that he doesn’t think he’s trolling. He’s insulting people. He’s intentionally misinterpreting their beliefs. He’s using provocative phrasing. He’s generally being a twit. But he thinks he’s engaging in intelligent debate.

I’m certainly not planning to check all 500 of his posts, but I’m curious as to whether all of them were in threads that either he started or that were started about him (like this one).

Just as an example, about 8-9 of his last 25 posts have been in threads other than ones he started(and had nothing to do with him as the subject).

He paid up to join in a Pit thread he posted, asking if people wanted him to join the SDMB. Among other things he was criticized for, was the number of threads he had started while on his guest membership. But mostly that he came across as a troll.
He actually did come back to that thread to post another time, or so. After four pages of posts of members mostly lambasting him – with occasional members tentatively saying he might, one day, improve maybe and should be given the benefit of the doubt – he oh-so-surprisingly decided to join up.
So, I’m sure that this thread with pages of complaints from members lambasting his trolling and too-many-threads littering the SDMB will make him change his ways.
Or, wait, no. I’m sure of the other wossname. You know… opposite, yeah, the opposite of that.

Yeah. Over 1/4 of his posts are new thread starts. Your ratio is less than 1/30. Mine is similar to yours: less than 100 starts in over 3,000 posts (and my 5-year anniversary on the Dope is coming up in a few days). We may debate whether 2.5" is a troll or not, but there’s little doubt he’s an attention whore.
