For those who don’t know, Marx toys do not usually go for $3K. Especially when the auction consists of five accessories. Five non-rare, rather common accessories for rather common Marx figures. The seller doesn’t appear to be pulling a prank … with a rating of well over 1K, anyway, that wouldn’t figure, especially since the price for listing the auction goes up with the listed starting bid.
This guy’s like, two days down, and not a single bid! He ought to lower the price to $500.00, use half of the profit to buy a freakin’ clue, and count himself lucky to have the other $250.00!
That entity (sometimes people have business accounts) had multiple auctions up selling that very lot (perhaps many times) … but those other auctions are “only” listed at $200. With no opening bid.
Now, there are small lots that could go for $200. Some steals, some not. That just ain’t one of ‘em. The stuff in those auctions is ludicrously inexpensive. Well, if you buy it from someone with a freakin’ clue:)
It looks like this seller made an error in their auction. The good news is it was submitted on one of the rare free listing days. During these periods one will notice a marked increase in errors, due to sellers rushing to get listings out, (they typically are only given 24 hours notice).
Welcome aboard! Abandon hope all ye who enter here…
I’ve sent emails to sellers and tried to tell them that they are mistaken in the value they are assigning to objects. Most just thank me, some are abusive. I suspect you’re right about haste in listings.
Mr. Blue Sky, I don’t know about the value of LPs, but lemme put it to you this way: the accessories in that auction I linked to might, might, MIGHT be worth a dollar or two, at most. And they’re filler accessories. To a collector of Marx toys they’re about as valuable as the lint in one’s pockets. If these were Jed Gibson’s accessories, they’d be worth a hefty bit more, but even that figure Mint in Box is still not worth $3K (a mint one of those might fetch 1.5K, if that).
I’d think that record would be worth a touch more than one three thousandth of the auction price there:)
We appear to be getting into a serious bout of underbidding, but I also have the Beatles’ LP. Is this just the regular American version of that LP or some rare first pressing or something?
If a single regular edition Beatles album sells for $15,000, I’ll be rethinking my retirement plans.
I can only guess the opening bid on the Marx toys (what the heck are Marx toys, anyway??) should be $3.00, or maybe even 30¢. They’re only charging $2 to ship in a padded envelope.
Would you ship something worth $3,000 in a padded envelope through the US mail?
