Interesting interview with the Reverend Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
I’ve seen lots of deserved rants against the Christian fundies who would love for the U.S. to become a theocracy, so it’s quite heartening to see someone of faith sticking up for reason. Get 'em, Barry!
Problem is, Rev. Lynn is apparently not on the right. Believe it or not, the left (and the center, though I’ll continue to use the word “left” in this thread) has many people who are religious.
If you look back, you’ll find that religious people have been heavily involved in pressing for the abolition of the death penalty, in supporting welfare, in many positions that the left holds. I, for one, can recognize that the religious do not equal the Religious Right.
You, I think, seem to assume that anyone of religion must be of the right, and I hope you can find the error in that assumption.
True about the press. This Christian got very little mass media attention when he condemned “Intelligent Design” as bad science. (Of course, he may not be a “real” Christian.)
Actually, most of the Christians that I know accept the theory of evolution. I grew up in one of the Presbyterian churches, became an Anglican and worked for the United Methodist Publishing House. Christians are more liberal than you might think from listening to the press.
