Somebody better loan me a dime. I need to call my old-time used-to-be.
Once I built a railroad, made it run, made it race against time.
Once I built a railroad, now it’s done.
Brother, can you spare a dime?
I wonder how many more dime songs there are. If we’re running out, we could skip to stuff from The Threepenny Opera and get seven cents change in return.
Take it from me, there is always someone watching every breath you take, every move you make, every bond you break, every step you take.
That’s because just like me, they long to be, close to you.
But, but…what if you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world? And if you do, and she’s crying?
No, the most beautiful girl in the world is not crying; in fact, she’s down at the Love Shack, wearin’ next to nothin’, cuz it’s hot as an oven.
You ask her, “won’t you stay just a little bit longer? Please let me hear you say that you will. Won’t you place your sweet lips to mine? Won’t you say you love me all of the time?”
Yes, but then it got to the point where I couldn’t miss her because she wouldn’t go away. I kept telling her day after day, but she wouldn’t listen. She’d always stay.
Hearing all these sob stories is making me sad. It’s time for something more upbeat. Like me, for example. Our house is a very very very fine house. With two cats in the yard*. Life used to be so hard, now everything is easy.
*We don’t know where they came from, and they won’t go away. And they poop all over everything. I hate those guys!
I can’t help thinking about the do-wah-diddy person in the OP. I mean, maybe she’ll want to give you kisses sweet but only for one night with no repeat. Maybe she’ll go away and never call, and a taste of honey is worse than none at all.
In that case, you don’t want no part. That would only break your heart.
But you know what? Oh-bla-di, oh-bla-dah, life goes on.
Whatever will be, will be. Que sera.
I don’t think we’ve exhausted the whole dime thing.
Hey mister! Do ya gotta dime? Hey mister! Do ya wanna spend some time?
I got what you want, you got what I need. I’ll be your baby, come and spend it on me.
Are you going to take me home tonight? Ah, down beside that red firelight? Are you going to let it all hang out? Fat bottomed girls, you make the rockin’ world go 'round.
I was just a skinny lad, never knew no good from bad, but I knew love before I left my nursery. I was left alone with big fat Fanny - she was such a naughty nanny. You big woman, you made a bad boy out of me!
I’m sick and tired of hearing the phone ring 15 times. I’m sick and tired of getting back my dimes. Cause I know where you are – you’re down drinking at the bar!
Yeah, you’d better avoid her! Otherwise she’ll drive you crazy—and they’ll be coming to take you away (ha ha).
If I had a dime for every time you walked away,
I could afford to not give a shit
and buy a drink and drown the day.
Crazy? I’m crazy for feeling so lonely…crazy for feeling so blue…
What if the pretty woman walking down the street was the kind I’d like to meet? Maybe if I went with a more respectful style: “Will you pardon me? I couldn’t help but see that you look lovely as can be. Are you lonely, just like me?”
Could you be the most beautiful girl in the world?
It’s plain to see, you’re the reason that God made a girl.
