A warning, for what exactly?

RT, I am afraid you are wrong, Colibri having determined by divine infallible unfalsifiable dictat that I am a jerk could hardly censure others for agreeing with him/her.

A moderator identified your post as jerkish, and you brought the question to ATMB. As a moderator, I am also entitled to make a call as to whether someone is behaving like a jerk or not. And since you raised the question, other posters are allowed to comment on whether you were behavior was jerkish or not.

You are not a moderator, and no moderator has identified the other posters remarks as jerkish. If you thing they are jerkish, then report them. You are not entitled to make the accusation in this thread.

Considering that your entire argument relies on your interpretation of Dangerosa’s actions being “the patently obvious behaviour of another poster”, and your remarks as “true and a propos”, you have no leg at all to stand on on making remarks about “divine infallible unfalsifiable dictat”.

Nope, you are not keeping up, please read the thread rather than shoot from the hip – she left when I pointed out that she was equivocating, I was slightly arch.

Now, the question at hand, my “note” regards my comments after – you say they were jerkish, fair enough, that is your decision. In this thread there seems to be a consensus that you are right.

Meanwhile, I say they were fair comment, that is my opinion.

For reasons unconnected to righteousness, you all win. BRAVO! Please buy yourselves a beer and think of me.

Just for the record: Yes, mods are allowed to refer to people as jerks or trolls when modding, because it’s required to explain the rule that is being broken. Posters calling other posters jerks or trolls isn’t allowed, but a mod giving a note or warning saying “You’re being given a warning for being a jerk” or “You seem to be trolling here, so here’s a note to cut it out” is allowable…because what way around that would we have otherwise?
If someone is acting like a jerk and should get a note or warning for it, it can’t really be put any other way.

Sorry if you see this as a double standard or unfair, but that’s just how it is. If you can think of a way to mod posters for being jerks or displaying trolling behavior without saying so, feel free to suggest it.

I went back and re-read it, and fair enough. I thought Colibri was calling TGU a jerk as a matter unconnected to what he’d been modded for being a jerk about, but I see that isn’t so.

As a general point, if it had been unconnected to the modding, would it have been allowed? I presume mods can’t just call people jerks (or trolls) at will.

Outside of modding, no, I can safely say mods cannot call other posters jerks or trolls just like any other poster.

Thanks!

In Chicago, SD’s spiritual home, they use jerkometers, not jerkometres.
And the accent is on the second syllable.

I apologize for being away; I try to at least make an appearance in an ATMB thread created because of action I’ve taken. However, I don’t really have much to add to what the other moderators in this thread have already said.

Yes, there was quite a bit of snark flying from many directions in that thread. In my view, the insulting parting shot taken at a poster who had left the thread crossed the line into jerkish behavior. You keep saying that you can’t think of another way to characterize the way you saw the poster’s behavior, but if that’s the case, you should have either refrained from making the comment, or you should have done so in the Pit. Nevertheless, in the context of the ongoing conversation, I did not think it flagrant enough to warrant anything more than a note.

And, to be clear, I was not name-calling at you, TGU; I was identifying the rule I felt was being broken.

No, you were jerkish. This is based on the way you phrased your remark, not on your observation per se.

I’ve been having some beers to be sure, but mainly to forget you.

I must say, this is fascinating to me.

“I got a warning for being a jerk! I protest!”

"You were a jerk. "
" it wasn’t a warning; it was a note. "
“All the same to me!”
"It’s not the same. And you were kinda jerkish. "
"The people in this thread are all jerks! "
“Careful, now that is actually warn-able.”
“Waaaah you’re all jerks. I was being arch!”

What?
