Every thursday afternoon on CBC Radio One out of Ottawa (that’s the Canuck Broadcasting Co., for those of you not in the loop) plays live-to-air movie reviews by Robert Fontaine (he’s from the Other Solitude, so it’s more like “Ro-BEAR Fohn-TAYHN”, if you will).
In any case, this guy is hard core. Does not suffer cream puff scripting or the glitter of the Hollywood Star Machine. Seems to appreciate nuance, foreign films and documentaries are often featured, and the banter with the show’s host is first rate and always amusing. On three occasions I can think of this guy had me laughing so hard I could not breathe, and I was wishing I could hear some of these again.
Lo and Behold. Requires Real Audio, unfortunately, but there’s a back log here almost 3 years long.
In any case, I love 'im and thought y’all might too. I tend to agree with him more often than not which is a far cry from my batting average compared to mainstream media reviews.
Any other Fontaine Fans out there?
