I’m trying to work on my verbal skills, and since I don’t really know any Mandarin-speaking Chinese, I thought the Net might be able to help.
Is there a good, free website that broadcasts the news, etc. in Mandarin? If it has Chinese subtitles that would be great, too.
Man, I’ve looked for this for a long time, and as far as I can tell there isn’t any.
The best solution I found was to go satellite. There are several free channels up there on the birds, though you do have to buy the dish and receiver. If you can find a used one, though, you should get off pretty cheap.
XM satellite radio had a Mandarin station when they first went on the air, but they dropped it.
Oh hell, I was afraid that would be the answer.
The Foreign Broadcast Information Service used to have Realaudio files of Chinese news with translations of the text into English. I think this program has been ended because of budget cuts, however. Try googling FBIS and mandarin and see what comes up.
I found a site! I have no idea what it’s about, or where it is broadcast from (my Chinese is extremely rudimentary), but it is streaming video and it seems to have subtitles
And it would probably help if I included a link
I found it through here
