A weird experience I am having right now

Right this very moment, I’m having an odd experience. I am in my living room, and I know this. Yet I feel like I’m in the kitchen.

This is no joke. It’s just weird.

I am sitting at my computer, which I know for a fact is in my living room. But I have the unshakable feeling that my location is “in the kitchen.” A feeling that if I turned around, I’d see the kitchen.

I can’t explain it any better than that. It’s like having deja vu, but with regard to space instead of time.

Weird. Weird weird weird.

And about five seconds ago, the feeling went away.

Lack of sleep is my diagnosis.

Can anyone recall anything similar to this happening to them?

Whenever I get to that place, I put my vodka soda down and decide that it’s time to go to bed. :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, along the same lines, I do occasionally get the feeling that even when my eyes are shut, I am looking at things. Sounds crazy…but I get the oddest sensation that even though my eyelids are shut, I can see through them.

Again, the best thing to do is go to bed. Even if vodka is not involved. FTR, I’ve had this bizarre notion since I was a kid. Long before vodka and insomnia were remotely on my horizon.

What you should know at this moment is that nothing you can possibly imagine is even remotely original. Everybody has bizarre WTF moments. It’s normal to feel abnormal.

I usually get that in the morning. The solution is not to go to bed, but to get up.

I love feelings of unreality like that. Adds a little touch of surealism to my day, and we could all use a little more surealism.
I sometimes get the sensation that something is in my mouth or hands when nothing is.

I sometimes will get to an intersection I’ve driven through hundreds of times and there’s a few seconds where I literally don’t know which way to go, as in it doesn’t look the slightest bit familiar to me, or I’ll suddenly have no idea how to procede to my destination. I assume this is tied in to / the cause of my absolute lack of sense of direction.

This reminds me of the occasions (rare) when I’m in bed and I’m not sure which side of my body I’m lying on, and therefore whether I’m facing into the room or the wall.

I usually open my eyes to solve this particular crisis.

Hmmmm. Once, I was in Northern Virginia, and couldn’t remember whether I was there or in New York.

Of course, I had been up the entire night going through a badly managed induced labor, and was about 5 minutes away from giving birth at the time. So my brain cells were not all firing properly at the time.

You haven’t been having any odd rhythmic stomach cramps, have you?

Most likely you’re just dead dog tired, but if this sort of thing persists beyond tonight, start reading up on jamais vu, presque vu etc. - this sounds like it’s in the same realm as those and it can be a symptom of migraines etc.
