I liked it too. I have it on DVD.

That’s a good point.
I think that part of what is great about that, though, is that for many (most) kids, smart is a social liability; it made us outsiders. Reading a story where the smart kid gets told “hey, eventually this liability will actually be a benefit” is a welcome respite from the every-day low level feeling of never being accepted by your peers.
And it also enabled us to go from “nobody is like me” to “Meg/Charles Wallace is like me”. Well, OK, neither of my parents is a Nobel laureate, and we don’t own a huge lot in the New England countryside, and I’ve never been off this planet, much less this plane of existence, but other than that, they’re like me.
It was pretty heavy on the action. I hope that’s just for the trailer and the movie is closer to the spirit of the books, but I’m worried.
A friend with the same doubts wrote this about the book on Facebook.:
[The book] is quiet and thoughtful; intense, but never flashy (except, maybe for the brief interlude where Meg gets to ride Ms. Whatsit in her form as a Pegasus). I’ve always loved that about it… the enemy is, ultimately, the monotony and conformity of intellectual slavery. It’s never about battles with swords or guns, but about rebuffing the calm placidity of giving in with the mind of an artist.

And the famous “Kids bouncing the ball in unison” Camazots bit looks exactly as spooky as it should.
I’m prepared to be disappointed (again) but based on this trailer alone, I’m cautiously optimistic and really hope that they do book two (“A Wind In The Door” as it’s, IMO, somewhat better than Wrinkle)
Anyone else seen the trailer? Opinions
*One of the Witches telling Meg to “Be a warrior”. Which is kind of antithetical to the whole point of the story which is that “Love (and not romantic love) conquers all”.
Yes, Camazotz looks exactly as it should.
And I completely agree that the “Be a warrior” line sounded off to me.
I’m wondering what Aunt Beast will look like.
I heard they hired Madonna.

I hear you, dude. Neither of my parents is a Nobel Laureate and we don’t own a huge lot in the New England countryside, either.

I remember enjoying it, except for one thing. They had to make Meg completely defeat IT and save Camazots. That was stupid, and undermined the message of the book. Meg couldn’t love IT, but she could love Charles Wallace and save him.
You don’t have to be uberpowerful to fight evil.
Is there no thread on the movie itself? I couldn’t find one.
I thought the movie was atrocious, BTW. One of the worst I’ve ever seen.
There has been some discussion of the movie in this thread: A Wrinkle in Time trailer released, and it looks AWESOME!!!
Thanks!
