AA Battery Has the Rhythm in it

I put a double ‘A’ battery into my cordless mouse this morning. This afternoon I’m tooling about and I start hearing a strange clicking/popping sound.

At first I thought the noise was emanating from our new kitten - we have a barking rabbit so a clicking kitten doesn’t seem out of the question - but it turns out the noise was coming from the mouse.

On closer inspection it turned out that the noise was coming from one of the batteries in the mouse. I took the battery out and replaced it but the battery kept clicking and popping for about five minutes before it stopped.

Any ideas? Did I accidently get an Al Quaida Energizer in with my good wholesome North American ones?

Internal short

Batteries can have an internal short? Damn.

So I’m guessing it’s pooched then?

It’s shot if it shorted out. I can’t think of anything else that would have a battery making a noise. It overheats and expands when shorted, often causing internal contents to leak out. Most batteries have a guarantee against this and you can get a new one by returning the shorted battery.
