The eye has finally moved east of us. New Orleans is now getting hammered, but the west side of Houston is getting some relief. The reservoirs filled up and had to water released from them. I don’t remember that happening before in my lifetime.

SWMBO and I managed to dodge a bullet. Where we live just happened to be between the feeder bands as Harvey moved eastward. We got rain but not torrential rain. I’m buying some lottery tickets today, if I can find anyplace still open.

For those that wished us well, our sincere thanks. For those that wished I would get killed by the storm, or be eaten by an alligator, or similar thoughts…have a nice day.

Glad you’ll be around for a while to take more abuse from us, fellow Doper-in-arms. Give SWMBO a hug for us.

Now Chris Christie is joining the lynch mob against Cruz too. As governor of New Jersey during that hurricane (Sandy), I’m sure he has a very sharp memory of what went down.

I have to say I liked how he acted then - He said (paraphrasing) “screw politics and screw party lines my people need help”.

Gov. Chris Christie blasted Sen. Ted Cruz Wednesday for claiming that the Superstorm Sandy relief package didn’t actually provide funding for the victims.

“Sen Cruz’s accusation that two-thirds of the Sandy bill was pork is absolutely ridiculous. The Washington Post did a fact check on it yesterday. That is consistent with what I remember at the time. There was a Senate bill that had some of that that all got stripped out because all of us, including the people of New Jersey, objected to it,” Mr. Christie, New Jersey Republican, explained on Fox News.

“They were playing politics with it. They were all getting ready to do what they wanted to do in 2016 and make themselves seem like the most conservative person. The fact of the matter is there’s not a liberal or conservative way to deal with people that are drowning or dying,” he added.

In 2013, Mr. Cruz and fellow Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn voted against the Superstorm Sandy relief package for a number of extra items thrown in the bill. They initially supported the funding package prior to the additions. Sandy devastated much of the coastline of Mr. Christie’s home state in 2012.

All things considered, I would sooner side with Christie than Cruz. Us East Coast boys stick together, and his story rings truer to me personally.

Are you able to explain why a well substantiated factual analysis in the Washington Post constitutes “doesn’t know what the hell they are talking about”, and that your rebuttal to it is the Murdoch tabloid the New York Post, about which this has been written:

Say what you will of Jersey Fats, yeah, Lyin’ Ted is just so slimy the floods will leave a coat of him all over Houston.

So I suppose Cruz will be fine with the Harvey relief bill including strict limitations and oversights so whatever’s done stops right at the high water line and rebuilding to statu quo as of mid-August and no further.

Hey guys, I survived the flood too, not that anyone cares.

In fact I was planning to regale y’all with dramatic, riveting stories of water rescues amid the fire ant rafts, alligators and exploding chemical plants, except…I haven’t got any. Never even lost power for a minute.

Oh, wait. Yesterday I locked myself out of the house and it took the locksmith THREE HOURS to get there due to so many of the roads being blocked. But he finally made it and everything is fine. Other than that, I got nothing.
