ABBA? It's Okay. Y'all Can Come Back!

Have y’all missed them like I have? I just love that sound and those voices!

Yeah, I know it was Disco stuff, but didn’t it make you feel good? I remember “breaking” the song Take A Chance On Me on my evening drive-time DJ show way back yonder.

I told the audience to set their radios to max volume before I spun the disk. It was great! I got so many calls that night for repeat plays!

I love ABBA!

Q

What’s wrong with ABBA? It’s cool.

hums I Have a Dream

And what the hell is wrong with Disco?!! Give me its feel good beats, hooks and lyrics over punk rock’s snarlings and bleatings about destroying the world and the joys of abusing drugs any day.

Disco and rock are quite compatible, thank you.

Example: Girls And Boys by Blur.

Absolutely nothing, my friend, unless you happened to be an ugly DJ wishing himself onto the dance floor with a beautiful lady!

Q

I liked them a lot. I still have several albums that I occasionally break out and play on ye olde turntable.

Erasure’s Abba covers were kinda catchy too.

You really need to get the DVD, ABBA: The Definitive Collection (if you haven’t already). All their videos in one handy little disc. Some are cringe-worthy, but they’re all enjoyable.

If you have it, notice how Frida’s look changes with nearly every video. Hey lady, pick a hairstyle and stick with it!

ABBA rules! Even my dad likes 'em! (He’s 60!)

ABBA Rules!

However, they have publicly stated that they will never, ever, tour together for any money (a couple years back they were offered some monumental sum and turned it down).

The cover band Bjorn Again is an acceptable substitute for some. There’s also a Swedish teen band called the A*Teens that covers ABBA exclusively (they’re okay, actually).

mmmmmm… ABBA.
