ABC pulls Jimmy Kimmel show indefinitely because of comments about Charlie Kirk

Breaking story is here. (Gift link).

I’m not clear what he said but it upset FCC head Brendan Carr enough to threaten penalties to ABC and affiliates.

Corporations are caving to Trump in a way I would have never previously believed possible.

I am beyond stunned and a little bit frightened.

I hope this backfires on Trump. Kimmel can just start a new show on Youtube called “Fuck Donald Trump” and can spend an uninterrupted hour every day going up one side of him and down the other, except now with colorful metaphors for added flavor. That will be a little harder to cancel although I am sure Trump will try.

I understand that Kimmel said:

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

Too bad his show is not aired in a country with free speech.

That’s where the corporations come in.

Cowards.

I wonder what Carr objected to. I just rewatched Monday’s monologue (it’s on YouTube). Kimmel mocks Trump’s response to Kirk’s death, but doesn’t really say much of anything about Kirk himself. And maybe that’s the point. Mocking dictators isn’t allowed.

I usually watch his show the day after on YouTube. I had to watch it again to see just what might have been complained about and really couldn’t see it. This is censorship, plain and simple. I’m sure Trump told the FCC to come down hard on Kimmel because he has hated him for a very long time.

It’s not like Kimmel will suffer financially, and he has 20 million followers on YouTube. He can just do his bits on that venue and reach a large audience. It pisses me off that we’ll have to listen to Trump crowing about this. And ABC can join CBS in my personal shitcan. I will not watch another program on either network.

Kimmel mercilessly mocks Trump and the Trump family and MAGA on every show.

What about Disney? Or Marvel? Or Star Wars?

I don’t watch any of those.

ESPN? Hulu? Pixar?

So next is the threats to the news division over the same thing. It COULD give ABC pause in a way this didn’t, but no guarantee.

Nope. I used to have HULU, but they’ve had crap choices for so long I gave it up.

It’s true. Kimmel delights in lampooning the Dear Leader. The difference this time may be that Kirk’s death gives Carr and others something to be righteously indignant about.

I do not watch any TV but for some reason I still have cable. I am going to make an effort to cancel the cable next month just for my own satisfaction. I’ll keep the internet.

Why is Brian “Kill The Homeless” Kilmeade is still on the air?

I do too.

However, I do not see how. If Kimmel was correct in what he said, it might backfire. But the Trumpers did not criticize an accurate statement here.

It seems to me that finding mistakes in critical media, or even comedy, is a reasonably effective way to censor those criticizing MAGA.

I never watch a ton of tv and about seven years ago my then girlfriend HATED tv. I realized that it was pretty much never on so I finally canceled cable (actually satellite) and I didn’t miss it. I don’t watch much sports but I do like watching the playoffs a little and I thought that I’d miss that but I didn’t at all. Kill it!
